Hotel prices in São Paulo and when to book cheaper
São Paulo is Brazil's largest city and one of the biggest economic centres in the world. There is no shortage of places to stay, and rates can differ several times over depending on the area, the dates and the standard. This list shows 8 912 properties: from hostel beds to apartments and premium hotels. Below we have gathered concrete figures to help you plan a budget and pick a good time to come.
When to book at the lowest price
In São Paulo rooms are cheapest in December, while November tends to be pricey, when business travel peaks. The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive month runs into tens of percent, so the dates alone can cut the bill more than switching hotels. Within the week the lowest rates usually fall on Thursday and Saturday, the highest on Wednesday. Booking around three months ahead gives the best prices, because cheap availability disappears closer to the date. The average stay in the city is about six nights, worth keeping in mind when you add it all up.
Price by property type
| Property type | Price per night (from approx.) |
| Hostel bed | from approx. R$ 80 |
| Apartment or studio | from approx. R$ 150 |
| 2-3 star hotel | from approx. R$ 200 |
| 4-star hotel | from approx. R$ 320 |
| 5-star and premium hotel | from approx. R$ 760 |
Price by neighbourhood
Location affects the price as much as the standard. The cheapest area is Ipiranga, where stays run on average more than a third below the rest of the city. At the other end sits Moema, the most popular and at the same time the priciest area among guests. Other popular districts, such as Brás, Liberdade, República or Pinheiros, fall pricewise between these two ends.
| Neighbourhood | Average price per night (approx.) |
| Ipiranga (cheapest) | approx. R$ 140 |
| Moema (priciest, most popular) | approx. R$ 360 |

Which hotel suits whom
- Families. Apartments and hotels near Ibirapuera Park offer the most space and convenience, close to green areas and the metro. Family rooms are among the most booked here.
- Couples. Atmospheric boutique hotels sit in Jardins and along Avenida Paulista, with restaurants, shops and the cultural scene within easy reach.
- With breakfast. Properties with a good breakfast included cluster in the centre and around Paulista, often in the mid price range.
- Near the airport. Around Guarulhos and Congonhas there are many hotels with airport transfers, handy for an early flight or a layover.
- Sightseeing without a car. It is best to pick areas near a metro station. The Bilhete Único card lets you switch freely between metro and buses and reach Paulista and Ibirapuera Park.

When São Paulo gets more expensive
São Paulo has a tropical climate with a dry and a wet season. The most pleasant time to explore is from March to May and from September to November, when it is warm and there is less rain. The tourist peak falls in the Brazilian summer, December to February, when it can get hot and afternoon storms occur. Accommodation prices also rise around big concerts and events, for instance at the Allianz Parque arena in the Barra Funda district.
